Barcelona seems basically like the Southern California of Europe. Everyone heads to the beach during the day, and then to the clubs at night. I spent a lot of time just hanging out on the beach, and hence, didn't wind up taking a lot of pictures. But here's one of me just cruising the town on a warm summer's day.
This is the view from my beach chair. It was so warm and sunny...I can tell why a lot of people from rainy countries come here often.
I love discovering street art. This mural poses a very good question.
Zurich
After Barcelona, I flew up to Switzerland to the town of Zurich. The name literally means "too rich", and it's not hard to see why when you see how much stuff costs in Switzerland. I had a really nice couchsurfing host here. A woman who hosts so many people so often, that she has a special room set up in her apartment just for this purpose. Here's my bed, with a note on the pillow that reads "Welcome to Zurich", and a table loaded with maps and guides! We had breakfast often and I pointed out on her kitchen map where I had traveled in the world. This is what couchsurfing is all about!
Switzerland has many outdoor fountains, all of which are perfectly safe to drink from. This particular fountain was being used to cool some beverages for a nearby picnic BBQ.
Sometimes the smallest pleasures in life are the best. Here I found a simple park bench and just read, wrote, listened to music, and just generally enjoyed a beautiful day.
Zurich has a large river running right down the middle (typical of many European cities). This one is so clean and fresh, locals regularly walk right down to the shallow banks and go for a swim. It's right next to the sidewalk. How convenient!
A street artist puts on a mini carnival with his homemade robots and gizmos. Very vaudeville.
Fish spit!
Like many cool things I've experienced in my travels, I stumbled upon this Latin music festival by accident. 3 days of Latin music, food, and a bunch of other festivities. What's more Swiss than Latin music, right?
Check out those skewers of meat! Mmm.
These martial artists were gathered in a circle, playing small drums and clapping, all taking turns getting in the circle doing kicks and flips. They were so fast!
Meat and a potato on a stick. I like the sign - no words needed, just a big recreation up above. The man chowing down gets it.
Lots of live music out in the streets!
Can you find me in this picture?
I have no idea what these little notices say on the ground, but there sure seem to be a lot of rules at this music festival.
On my way out of Zurich, I picked up these delicious chocolates at the train station. Switzerland has some of the best chocolates in the world!
